Grouper Fishing Miami |
Grouper fishing in Miami is most productive with Live Bait bottom fishing, and jig fishing around reefs and wrecks, is a great method to catch some really big bottom fish. Grouper up to almost 100lbs are possible, but nice fish from 10lbs to 40lbs are caught all year round. The winter months are the best time of year to try and catch a big Grouper. In the winter the Groupers move out to the deeper wrecks and prepare to spawn. We know and currently fish more than 250 wrecks and rubble piles in our area, and just love the opportunity to drop a live bait on any of them. The “Grouper and Sea Bass” family has a few members that we target. Red, Gag, Black, Warsaw, Yellow Edge, Scamp, Kitty Mitchell, Snow, Rock are just a few that live in our area. Our most productive method of catching these fish is to place lively, medium to large live baits over wrecks in the Gulf Stream in at least 150′ of water and out to almost 400’deep. Strong baits placed on long leaders in medium to fast current works best. |

Grouper Fishing Miami InfoAnother great way to catch Groupers is deep jigging. We have taken an old technique and combined the new technology of spectra line and butterfly jigs. This deadly combination now allows us to place jigs on deeper wrecks with really light tackle. Catching a 20lb Gag on a spinning rod in 200+ feet of water on a fast moving jig is just as thrilling as fishing can get. Target species are Reds, and Gags. The wrecks that we will fish range from about 150′ of water and all the way out to 385′. When conditions are right we can fish up to three jigs at a time and multiple hook ups are common. Bottom fishing with cut bait on “Chicken Rigs” is another great way to catch groupers, deadly on Reds . Our largest Grouper a Warsaw that weighed in at 90+ pounds and a Wreck Fish that weighed 125lbs were both caught on dead cut bait |
